AUO's Micro LED and Multiple Advanced Display Technologies Honored with 2018 SID Best in Show Award

AUO Corporation ("AUO" or the "Company") (TAIEX: 2409; NYSE: AUO) announced today that during Display Week 2018, it has obtained 2018 SID Best in Show Award in the Medium Exhibit Category for its multiple advanced display technologies, including the world’s highest resolution(*) and full color TFT driven 8-inch micro LED display technology. The award was conferred by the Society for Information Display (SID) to highlight the most significant new products and technologies shown on the exhibit floor during Display Week. AUO impressed the expert committee with the outstanding overall performance of its multiple advanced display technologies, again shone in the international arena with its profound R&D capabilities.

AUO has successfully developed the world’s highest resolution(*) and full color TFT driven 8-inch micro LED display and debuted the technology on the exhibit floor at Display Week 2018, winning wide acclaim with its exceptional high dynamic range performance. AUO’s micro LED technology employs LTPS-TFT backplane, which allows each pixel to be lighted independently to realize more refined images with high dynamic range and power-saving strengths. A high 169 PPI pixel density is achieved by micro LEDs less than 30 micrometers in size. Combining color conversion technologies, the display is able to yield even more marvelous and accurate colors.

In SID’s Display Week 2018 AUO demonstrates a new suite of mini LED backlit LCD panels with high brightness and high dynamic range for gaming monitor, gaming notebook PC and VR headset applications. The full versatility of LTPS technology is also showcased by presenting displays for all types of mobile devices, including the world’s first(*) 13.3-inch UHD 4K narrow border LTPS LCD supporting use of stylus. Exhibition highlights also include the world’s first(*) 13.2-inch free-form car display with gate circuit in active area (CIA) and 13-inch AMOLED display with the world’s highest(*) transparency.
